Paintings, Volume I

I created a book because I feel something has shifted. I’ve explored a number of interesting paths while putting a few miles on my brushes. Now it is time to have a look at where I’ve come from and figure out where to go next.

Painting is an interesting journey. It takes you places you’ve never dreamed of going, shows you things you may have once overlooked. It is both intellectually challenging and stimulating. It is ever evolving.

Best of all, the deeper you go, the more you discover.

This is a sampling of about 60 paintings (still life, landscape, figures and portraits) over the past four years (2004 - 2008). I hope the next volume doesn’t take as long to collect and I especially hope you enjoy this book.

Joe Fafard

Filed under: Notes — Tags: — ma @ 7:36 pm

The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia is currently exhibiting Joe Fafard’s work. Fafard is a Saskatchewan artist, considered one of Canada’s finest sculptors. He works in a variety of sculptural media — ceramic, bronze, plaster, and steel sculptures, as well as works on paper.

He has immortalized politicians, friends but especially farm animals. My favourite is the life size statue of Western Dancer, a horse I’d estimate to be around 16′2 hands high. There is an amazing energy in this broad retrospective of his work, as well as humour.

The show runs until February 8, 2009. If you have a chance, please go, I’m certain you will be impressed.

Landscape painting locations

Filed under: Landscape — Tags: — ma @ 1:33 pm

I’m starting a Google map project today to plot some of my landscape locations. It will be an interesting and ongoing project, maybe someday I can include the GPS information. Please click here to view the interactive map and come along with me on this journey. Click on the “pins” to see the painting that was painted at (or from) this location.
